How I like to work with clients
I like working with nice people who have interesting problems. Get in touch if I can help you.
Here's what to expect when you work with me.
Need help with Google Sites? Here's how I like to work with people. Get in touch if you'd like to talk about your project.
Let's agree the scope of work.
To get the ball rolling we have a good old fashioned natter to make sure we're on the same page. I want to know what your goals are, who your audience is, and what you have in mind for your website. It's likelysomewhere between "make it look more professional" and "I want a subtle colour palette with a sympathetic and supportive mood-theme", and that's fine. Let me have it! There's no tech talk — just a casual conversation to get the creative juices flowing!
I'll provide an estimate.
Once we've agreed on the scope, I’ll get my calculator out (not really, but you get the idea) and provide you with an inclusive estimate. You'll know exactly what to expect, from costs to timelines. Transparency is key here, so there's no gotchas further down the road.
You give me the nod.
If you're happy with the scope and the estimate, this is the part where you nod approvingly, send a virtual high-five, or just say, “Let’s do it!” Once you give me the go-ahead, I’ll be ready to get started and bring your vision to life.
I start with the homepage.
Think of the homepage as the front door to your website. I’ll build it first to set the tone, style, and structure for the rest of your website. I find it's a really useful sneak peek of what’s to come, and your first real chance to see your ideas taking shape. There's no charge up until this point.
We have a review and make any updates.
After the homepage reveal, there may be some revisions to make, or changes to apply. That's fine, I expect that.
This is your chance to tweak, adjust, to get it 'just so'. Whether it’s changing a colour or rearranging a section, I’ll make sure it’s just how you want it.
You give me another nod.
Once you're happy with the homepage, it’s time for the next thumbs up. This is your official seal of approval before I get on and build the rest of the site. By this time I've worked out the fundamentals, the style, theme and main layout characteristics. If you're happy, I'm happy — this is where the fun starts.
Payment, part 1.
At this point, you’ll pay the first half of the total cost estimate. Like, 50%. Consider it the down payment on your dream site. Once the deposit is paid I can crack on with developing the rest of the website.
I build the rest of your website (where you can see it).
Now the magic happens. I’ll build the rest of your site, and you’ll be able to see progress as I go. No mystery here — I keep things transparent, so you can check in and share feedback while your site comes together.
Build complete, time to review.
With your site fully built, it’s time for you to review the whole thing. From the homepage to the final page, you’ll be able to see every element in action. Test it out, explore, and let me know if any final tweaks are needed before we wrap things up.
Nod number 3, and payment part 2.
Once you’re completely satisfied with the final product and you're ready to take ownership, you’ll pay the remainder of the balance. Like, the other 50%.
Exciting, launch day!
I’ll hand over the keys (metaphorically speaking) and transfer the Google Site to you. If you need to connect it to your domain, I can help with that. Now it’s all yours to share with the world.
There's some basic stuff to protect you, and protect me.
I'm a friendly fella, and if I can help with your project I will. I won't sell you something you don't need, and I won't blind you with buzzwords or technical jargon either. But here's what I expect from you:
You don't work for free, and nor do I. I'm happy to incorporate changes and alterations to get your website just how you want it. If I can do this within the original cost estimate that's just fine. If I can't, I'll let you know what the additional cost might be and we can take it from there. So far, I've never had to up a price, but if you're materially changing the scope or want endless revisions - then you'll need to pay for that.
I'll know what I want when I see it! I'll know what you want when I see it too. When I ask what you're after, if this is your response, well, that's fine, I can make suggestion or point you towards some galleries or templates as inspiration, but what I won't do is endlessly rework designs and cross my fingers in the hope of hitting a sweet spot somewhere along the line.
Like the cut of my jib? Think we could work together?
